Providing Emergency Assistance and Community-based Education (PEACE) - Takhar Province
LocationTakhar Province
Focus AreasCommunity Based Education
Project Overview
The Afghan Amputee Bicyclists for Rehabilitation and Recreation (AABRAR) organization and its partner, Asia Community Development Organization (ACDO), are implementing an education access program targeting 10,000 conflict and crisis impacted children (50% girls) in Farah and Takhar provinces of Afghanistan. The program aims to support these vulnerable children through both community-based classes (CBCs) as well as enrollment assistance and aid for public school programs. Specifically, the initiative plans to establish 130 CBCs, with 35 students per class, to enroll 4,550 children across target provinces. Teachers for these classes will be trained in methodologies like psychosocial support, child protection etc. based on INEE and other education standards. The classes are equipped with WASH facilities, health kits and winter supplies to provide safe and supportive spaces. An additional 5,450 children will receive assistance to enroll in public schools, along with provisions of teaching-learning materials.
To facilitate the public-school aspect, 22 government schools across the target districts will undergo minor rehabilitations to improve their intake capacity. This aims to enable absorption of students from CBCs at end of program cycles. Additionally, school management councils conduct community awareness activities to sensitize parents regarding benefits of education access especially for vulnerable children.
